We have been engaging in Black History Month discussions in Opal class. The children have been learning about some influential key figures from the past to the present who have had significant impact on ensuring equal rights. We also had some meaningful discussions about Racism with the children trying to understand what it all means. This was quite relevant this week especially with the current issues in the news of late.

The children learnt that there were different types of racism (ask them if they can recall them). They wrote down what they understood from our whole class discussion.

We then looked at some famous black musician through the decades and the children produced some beautiful mosaic art around a selection of artists.
