Hello and welcome back to a new school year Bramble Class! We hope you had a lovely summer holiday. This term is going to be very exciting, filled with lots of fun learning.

Our P.E days are every Monday and Wednesday. Please bring in your PE kit for our lessons.

Below is an outline of what we will be covering this term across all of the subjects.

English

This term we will be learning through the books; Jim and the Beanstalk by Raymond Briggs and Zeraffa Giraffa by Diane Hoffmeyr. The children will create sequels and retellings as well as writing informal letters.

Maths

Our topics this term include number, place value, addition and subtraction and money. We will also be using our Maths knowledge to solve real life problems. You can help your children at home with practical activities such as telling the time and counting coins in shops.

Science

This term, we will be learning about animals including humans. We will discover more about the life cycles of humans, frogs, butterflies and chickens.

History

Why are these people influential?

Throughout this term, we will be studying people who have made significant contributions both nationally and internationally. We will primarily look at influential women such as Edith Cavell, Mary Seacole, Edith Cavell and Florence Nightingale. We will learn about their achievements, contributions as well as their legacies.

Geography

Villages, cities and towns!

This term we will be looking at settlements and what makes a town, a city and a village. We will also focus on what things affect where people live.

PE

We will have PE every Monday and Wednesday where we will be doing dance, ball skills, invasion games and team building.

RE

We will be learning about different Christian beliefs and traditions, including why Jesus taught the Lord’s prayer as the way to pray and how the symbol of light helps Christians to understand the meaning of Christmas.

PSHE

We will be learning about:

1. Physical health and wellbeing: What keeps me healthy?
2. Mental health and emotional wellbeing: Friendships

As a part of our cooking and nutrition curriculum, we will be preparing and making healthy wraps using seasonal vegetables from our school garden.

Computing

We will be learning how to improve our typing skills as well as write a digital story. The children will also learn about the ways that they can stay safe when going online.

Spanish

This year Spanish will be taught in Year 2, by our native Spanish speaking staff members!
Our Class Assembly will be help on Tuesday the 11th of November at 10am.
