Staying Safe Online – A Guide for Parents- Think Smart
At St. Mark’s Primary School, we take online safety seriously and ensure that our children develop the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the digital world safely. We follow the Islington Computing Scheme, which teaches children about online risks, digital responsibility, and how to protect themselves when using technology. Additionally, we use LGfL’s online filtering and firewall to keep children safe while using the internet at school.
Managing Screen Time & App Use
In today’s digital world, children have access to a wide range of apps and online platforms. While technology is a valuable learning tool, excessive screen time can affect well-being, sleep, and concentration. We encourage parents to set clear boundaries for device use, use parental controls, and have open conversations about safe and appropriate app use.
Here are some tips for managing screen time and app safety at home:
✅ Set time limits for screen use, especially before bedtime.
✅ Use parental controls to manage app downloads and privacy settings.
✅ Encourage regular screen breaks and offline activities.
✅ Discuss online safety rules, including not sharing personal information.
✅ Check age ratings and content on apps, games, and social media.
