Welcome To Summer Term, Year 3!

English

This term we will be reading the following four texts: ‘The Wild Robot’ by Peter Brown, ‘Mama Miti: Wangari Maathai, the Trees of Kenya’  Donna Jo Napoli,  ‘The pebble in my pocket’ by Meredith Hooper and ‘Libba’ by Laura Veirs; which are linked to our Class Topic.

Children will be exploring non-fiction outcomes, information reports, adverts, narratives and poetry.  Children will be developing their writing, reading and grammar skills.

Maths

This term we will be revisiting fractions. We will continue to solve problems involving the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will learn about fractions, time and statistics.

RE (Religious Education)

We will be learning about Buddhism, reflecting on Buddist’s beliefs and exploring stories from the Faith. We will also explore  the question “Who is Jesus”.

 Geography

Mountains, Rivers and Coasts

Children will be learning about Physical geography, including: climate zones, biomes and vegetation belts, rivers and mountains.

We will also be learning how the earth was formed and how the earth is made up of different layers.

Science

Plants

We will be exploring flowers, seeds and fruit. Through observations and investigations, we will be learning about pollination, what happens to plants after pollination and seed dispersal.

 

Rocks
This is also linked with our geography topic. Children will learn about different types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. Working scientifically, they will investigate the properties of rock and its uses in everyday life. They will learn what different soils are made from. They will also study different types of fossils and find out how fossils are formed.

PE (Physical Education)

This term in PE children will learn the skills of striking and fielding used in the games of cricket and rounders. Children will continue to develop their strength, control and balance in athletics.

P.E is on Monday and Thursday.

Computing

We will be looking at how to plan, design and program a monologue animation. We will also be thinking about the impact that news and media has on us.

PSHE

This term, in Relationships and Health Education, we will be looking at the similarities and differences between boys and girls and different families.

Music

This term, Justice Class are looking at Pop Music.

Art and DT

We will be designing and creating textiles and 3D models based on our topics this term.

Spanish

In Spanish, the children will build on their prior knowledge and start to learn the names of fruits and ice cream flavours.

P.E

This term, we will be learning the skills of basketball including throwing, catching, defending and intercepting. We will then learn the key skills required for tennis such as the ready position, racket control and hitting a ball. We will also practise yoga poses and techniques that will help to connect our minds and bodies.

P.E is on Monday and Thursday.

Homework

Homework will be set each Friday and handed in on the following Wednesday.
