This Spring Term, Taiga Class looked into the life and work of Chinese artist, Qi Baishi. Baishi was one of the most beloved and well-known Chinese artists of the 19th and 20th centuries.

He was born into poverty in 1864 to a peasant family, he was a carpenter and taught himself to paint. At age forty, he travelled across China painting historic and scenic locations. He became a master of fine brushwork and minute detail.

To recreate his work, we sketched an outline of a tree, with blossom, in pencil then used a very fine watercolour paintbrush to add detail to our tree and blossom.
