October marks Black History Month in the UK. During Black History Month, we value and celebrate the important people from the past and also those who contribute and help our society. During this time, teachers at St Mark’s have been busy teaching lessons about significant figures in history such as Dr Martin Luther King, Ayanna Najuma and Mary Seacole, challenging negative stereotypes whilst also recognising positive elements of history that deserves to be celebrated.

As a whole school, we have ended this half term by holding an afternoon of fun activities to explore black history through dance, tasting traditional food, story telling, and art. The event was a huge success, pupils and staff alike were engaged throughout the afternoon.
