Year 6 have been making African Thumb Pianos. Often known as Kalimbas or Mbiras, these hand-held instruments are playing by holding the instrument and plucking with your thumbs. To make the base, we sawed, drilled and sanded. To complete our thumb pianos we used weaving skills and inserted the lollysticks under a piece of wood to create tension. Have a look at some of the fantastic photos of the children working and our finished creations!
