Year 5 became engineers this week as we took on an air resistance investigation to create the perfect parachute. The children tested different types of parachutes by only changing one variable in each investigation. We made three parachutes each and measured how long each one took to get to the ground from the top of the stairs. We found that closed, thin and large materials make the best parachutes as they harness the most air resistance resulting in the parachute taking longer to fall.
