Dear Parent/Carer,

Every Monday pupils from St Mark’s attend the Music Education Islington ‘Music Centre’ at AMSI. We are delighted to say that we still have six spaces for more students from Years 4,5,6 to attend. It is a fabulous way to get instrumental tuition for your child for an incredibly cheap price.

Here is some more information.

Who?

Music Education Islington ‘offer high quality music education and progression opportunities to all children and young people in Islington’.

The Music Centre is a ‘passionate and exciting after school community led by inspirational instrumental teachers. With ‘an emphasis on fun’ they offer a ‘friendly and supportive environment to nurture pupil’s musicianship skills and sign post progression opportunities’.

Why?

Playing a musical instrument and participating in ensembles helps to build a student’s confidence, resilience, teamwork and communication skills whilst developing what we hope will be a lifelong love of music and the arts.

When?

The Music Centre runs after school on a Monday. Your son/daughter is chaperoned to the Arts and Media School, Islington (luckily for us its 5 minutes walk away!) by a St Mark’s staff member.

The sessions run from 4.00 – 6.00pm. With an extra half an hour (4.00 – 6.30pm) for those students asked to attend the orchestra.

Parents/Carers must pick up their child from the main reception of the Arts and Media School, Turle Road, N4 3LS at the end of the session.

Students can learn one of the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, double bass, ukulele, guitar, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, recorder, saxophone, trumpet, cornet, french horn, tenor horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, drums.

Costs

As St Mark’s have partnered with MEI and the Music Centre. Our children are able to receive half price tuition. There are 10 sessions throughout the term at a cost of £6.50 each. You are asked to pay in one payment of £65.

If your child is currently not learning an instrument in school and does not have access to an instrument it is possible to rent an instrument through the school. The cost of this is £10 per term.

Please note that we wish to eliminate any financial barriers to accessing an exceptional music education. Discounted and free places are also offered to students subject to means testing.
