Welcome to Autumn Term, Primrose Class!
We hope you had a fantastic summer break and are looking forward to the fun term ahead.
English:
This term, we will be reading The Scarab’s Secret, which links to our History topic on the Egyptians. We will also explore The Iron Man, and Leon and the Place Between. Children will be working on persuasive writing, diary entries, narratives, and character descriptions. They will continue to develop their writing, reading, and grammar skills.
Maths:
This term, our topics will include place value, multiplication, division, fractions, and place value. We will also focus on developing reasoning skills in maths and tackling more complex questions with confidence.
Science:
We will be focusing on our big questions: How do forces, friction, and magnetic attraction work? and What is light and how does it behave?
Through our science lessons, we will explore these questions through experiments, data collection, and working scientifically.
History:
Topic: How has Ancient Greece improved our lives today?
In History, we will explore the many ways Ancient Greece was a formidable civilisation. We’ll focus on key aspects such as the River Nile and its role in trade, the pharaohs, the pyramids, and the rich culture of the ancient Egyptians. We’ll also go on a quest to uncover the mystery of Tutankhamun!
Geography:
Topic: What can we learn from the physical and human geography of modern Europe?
We will focus on the countries that make up Europe, major mountain ranges and rivers, and industrialised nations. We’ll also learn to use atlases to locate capital cities and other key geographical features. Additionally, we will compare eastern and western Europe, including differences in climate and weather patterns.
PSHE:
This term, we will be learning about the importance of understanding the dangers of drugs and alcohol. We will discuss their negative effects and how to make healthy choices. We will also have a session on asthma awareness.
Religious Education:
In RE, we will explore the Big Story of the Bible. Although there is a lot to cover, we will aim to understand the key parts of the story—from creation and the fall, to the incarnation and the gospels.
D&T / Art:
In Art, we will be developing our drawing skills. Using our sketchbooks, we’ll experiment with different pencils, working on techniques such as shading and blending to draw a cave. In DT, we will be designing a pharaoh’s headdress—one that could even be worn in the rain!
Music:
We will begin learning to play the ukulele and aim to compose some fantastic tunes!
Computing:
Information Technology: We will focus on digital devices, including inputs, outputs, and how computer networks work.
Digital Literacy: We will discuss the concept of “device-free moments” and why they matter.
PE:
This term, we will be doing a variety of activities including fitness, football, dance, and dodgeball. These sessions will be delivered by Coach Sachs, which is very exciting!
P.E. days are Monday and Thursday.
Spanish:
Children will build on their prior knowledge and begin learning more about the Spanish language and culture.
Homework:
Homework will be set each Friday and should be handed in by the following Wednesday.
