Welcome To Summer Term, Year 5!
English
This term, in English, we will be studying the story of the Winter’s Tale by William Shakespeare. The children will be immersing themselves in a number of drama/role play session in class as well as sessions help by The Primary Shakespeare Company. Children have been given the amazing opportunity to perform at The Globe to showcase their wonderful script and a song that they created in collaboration with one of the leaders from the Primary Shakespeare Company!
Maths
In Maths, children will start off the term by be using their prior knowledge of finding equivalent fractions to find decimal and percentage equivalents. We will then move on to studying shape and decimals.
RE (Religious Education)
The children will be finding out what it means to be a Sikh including what they believe and what they value. We will also be exploring the similarities and differences between Sikhism and Christianity.
History and Geography
Our topic for this term is Geography and we will be learning all about climate change. By the end of tis topic children will have knowledge of what factors have caused climate change and what impact this has on our country.
Science
Our topic this term in Science is Animals including humans. We will be focusing on the naming different stages of development for different animals as well as identifying they . key changes that occur at each stage. We will also be studying the life cycle of humans whilst focusing on the key stages of development of a baby.
PE (Physical Education)
The children will be learning how to do Yoga and play Cricket.

Computing
In computing, we will be introducing the concept of variables in Scratch game.
PSHE
Music
The theme for this terms music is Blues, Jazz and rock on roll. The children will be looking at the history of three Genres and discovering the links between them. They will also be playing instruments as a class/improvising.
Spanish
The children will focus on the following topics during Spanish lessons: Repeating and recognizing the vocabulary for a variety of clothes in Spanish, to say what they wear in different weather/situations, and describing clothes in terms of their color and apply adjectival agreement.
Homework
Homework will be given every week on a Friday. This will include a reading comprehension and Maths worksheet ( based on the topic that they have learnt that week). Homework is due on a Friday and a spelling test will take place on this day as well.
